My Streamer Con Vtuber adventure

In 2022 I was fortunate enough to work alongside three very talented South African Vtubers. All three of these content creators left a big impression on my heart, especially after our real-life encounter.

My opportunity to work with these vtubers started when I got an email asking if I would like to join a vtuber panel at Streamer-Con. I recall sitting up in my bed, reading the email again, thinking it was some kind of mistake… however the email was a second “check-in mail” asking if I was still interested as they have not heard from me regarding their first request.
Going through my mails I felt panic set in, as I was wondering if the email with my name on it was not meant for someone else :) (I know right, lol).  Another part of me hoped I somehow just missed the first email and that this was not a dream… I recall frantically scrolling, searching… and there it was :)

I responded as fast as I could… “yes and I am so sorry blah blah blah”. I was over the moon, with butterflies in my stomach, I felt so happy.

At the time I knew of one other ZA vtuber that was going to join the panel, however, we ended up being 4 in total and I could not believe who I was joining. I still struggled to understand how I managed to get onto the panel but I was thankful for the opportunity given to me.

Looking back at Streamer Con my heart still fills with pride and joy as somehow I was very lucky to be put on a panel alongside three very talented South African Vtubers. Streamers and content creators I admire for their skills, determination, and their unmatched talents.
I am very fortunate to know them and have gotten to work with them, even if it was brief.

On the day of our panel talk, we all were very nervous and excited, mixed emotions as some of us were meeting for the very first time. I still recall how polite everyone was with each other.
As we waited for transport to take us to our “safe location” I had a good look at the three vtubers around me.

In front of me stood a small little thing, tiny, who seemed at first very nervous.
Somehow I wondered if she was anything like her onscreen persona… not surprising, she was, she was
Gamagachi after all. She exploded with excitement once we all settled in and I could not help but feel happy and cheerful around her.

Gama’s streamers are like a wild roller coaster ride, we never know what to expect. There is a lot of excitement on her streams, bright colors, affectionate “bullying” from her viewers, singing, and happy birthday wishes all around (if you are reading this, It’s Gama’s birthday so wish her a happy Birthday).

She brings a lot of joy to her community and her viewers care a great deal about her. Everything on her stream radiates, excitement, and it’s very refreshing to watch her stream.
Little Gama might not know this but I look to her a great deal, she is my muse for working harder and I someday hope to stand alongside her again, whether its to play games or just drink some tea. I admire her a great deal as she has been a good friend to me, always willing to help and listen.
I wish I got to spend more time with her and that we played more games together as she is sure to make anyone’s day amazing.

I’d never met a frog with artistic talents before, that was until I met Gama… I wonder how so much talent can be stored in such a tiny person.
Did you know that Gama designed her own model, rigged it herself?

The second individual was not what I expected AT ALL.
Somehow I was expecting a red penguin onesie, blasting unthinkable amounts of energy at everyone, nonstop chatting, babbling, and bouncing off the walls, cracking a lot of jokes at ever opportunity given.
Or at least that is how we know Kaizo Pengu from his stream, a very destructive little penguin. Throwing 1000% of his energy into what he does, and I am not 100% sure if its his love for Red bull that keeps him going or if he is just that busy all the time.

However instead in front of us stood a very calm, and collected Kaizo, taking the leading role of the group and helping Streamer-Con with everything the vtubers needed for the panel.
Working hard to make sure both parties were happy and nobody was stressing, he helped the planners with everything we needed. He did not seem panicked at all considering some of us were meeting for the very first time (I believe).

When we arrived safely at our setup station, it was as if another person stood in front of us, I could not help but smile as this was the crazy pengu we all knew take over.
His energy level skyrocketed, he was like a completely different person, ready to make everyone laugh and smile as he took his seat.
My respect for him grew even more, his determination and hard work reflects in everything he does. He is a master at creating videos and he makes it look so easy. Everything he does is what I assume he taught himself and I cannot help but be a little jealous.

I cannot wait to see what he does next and what content he brings forward.

And third, we had Gmax, someone with whom I have not interacted a lot before the panel, he seemed calm and showed us a kind smile. A lot quieter than our other two panelists and there was a familiar feeling to him, I think it’s was because we were both a bit similar.

When you watch his streams, they feel homey and comfy, I find it easy to sit back, watch and listen. I could easily open his stream and listen to him play games and chat with the viewers while I worked.
There is just something very comforting about his community, especially when he addresses everyone as if they have been old friends. Whether you are a new viewer or someone returning, he gives everyone the same time and care.

GmaxYoda is a PNG vtuber and puts in a lot of time and effort towards his model, like most vtubers he does not have the physiques to move around like most.
So it’s notable that he has a lot of different looks on stream, the main look/idea of his model remains the same but he adds a lot of ideas to alter the end results.
Personally, I feel that PNG vtubers have to work a lot harder than moving models as they are very limited in what they can do.
Gmax, however, makes it look so effortless and I am in awe of him and what he does.

I wish I discovered his content way before the event as he is a very kindhearted individual, and his content is very wholesome. He deserves so much love and support and with his hard work and determination, he will achieve great things.
Meeting him at the event was very rewarding as it opened my eyes to what goes behind the making of a PNG vtuber.

And then there was me, standing there, wondering how I got so lucky to stand alongside these three talented vtubers.
I can hardly get my own audio to work, let alone set up a hotkey to zoom into my model… but there I was… slowly freaking out, questioning myself.
I think my most notable aspect as a South African Vtuber was that so many people believe that I was the first South African vtuber…which is untrue and it makes me a little sad.
Having the opportunity to sit around a table with these three was rewarding in its own way. They have motivated me to try harder and do better as a content creator. Being surrounded by them really opened my eyes to more possibilities and I will slowly be teaching myself new skills as I work on my own new persona.

The South African Vtubing community has so much to offer and it’s growing every day.
I think in the future this is another segment we should add as I would like to bring more ZA vtubers to you all. Hopefully, I can cover each and every one of them as time goes by.

With all that being said, thank you for reading, please do go and support each of the vtubers above as they each deserve so much love and support. I respect them a great deal and love their content very much. Each of them are very different but also very similar, especially when it comes to the passion they have for what they do.

Let me know if I should do more short reviews on vtubers and on who should be next :)

Lots of Love
