So Much Has Changed In One Year

One year ago today I started a nerdy little game blog. Something I would have never seen myself actually doing if it wasn’t for one final push from the people who believed in me. They wanted to see my dream become a reality… And it did!! The second I posted my first story it felt like I finally managed to grasp the beginning of my journey. Although it might have been a rocky landing with me not knowing what to do and how to start it all! After being shown how to post and making a few mistakes along the way I somehow managed to post the first few articles and I slowly got the hang of it. I still remember how sick I felt when making a new post and how worried I was if people would actually read the articles… it was stressful!
And now it’s been a year since writing and posting my very first blog post. I genuinely could have never pictured myself sitting here one year later already recapping my first 12 months. If anyone had asked me if this is where I pictured myself being in 2020 I would have honestly said no. So many things happened over the past year that I couldn’t have predicted where I’d end up, I would’ve never pictured myself unemployed, fighting to pay bills, and somehow staying afloat. I would have never imagined we all would be stuck in such difficult times in 2020. However despite all of those bad things, somehow it’s still a very exciting chapter in my life. I’m working really had to make this dream of becoming a full time writer and content creator a reality. I’ve met so many wonderful new people within the gaming industry who share the same love and passion I do for video games and honestly, it’s so refreshing to be around others who understand when I cry over a character’s death or sit hours and hours playing a game.

Over the past year, I got to share some of my personal stories with the world. Stories that helped shape who I am today, things like how video games taught me how to read or even about how looking up to Commander Shepard from Mass Effect helped shape who I am today. And it is with the help of video games, through their wonderful storytelling, that awoke a hunger inside me that craves more and more incredible stories!

However this is not about me, this is about you! Yes, YOU!! The wonderful person reading yet another of my stories, and I just wanted to say thank you.
This is my thank you letter to the people who have supported me and welcomed me with open arms into the gaming community. I took a leap of faith in trying to make my dreams a reality and with the support of my new found friends and loved ones it really did become a reality.
It’s been an exciting year in terms of making friends. I got to meet so many new people and got to go to big events like Comic-Con, Rage, and also enjoyed myself at nerdy board game days all for the very first time. It’s been a wonderful year of experiencing new things and attending geek culture festivals and I can’t wait to go back next year!

My goal for AzuraCub still remains the same, and that is to change the gaming community to become a more welcoming environment for female gamers and future generations of girl gamers. Even if just one girl can relate and take inspiration from what I’ve written about girls within the gaming industry being equal to male gamers and streamers then it’s all been worth it. If even one girl can relate and stand up for herself then I know I’ve done a good job and it would make me very happy knowing I could have helped someone through my writing. Especially since I’m not someone who openly says how I feel, writing somehow makes it easier for me and I hope that people can read my thoughts and find something they can relate to.

With all this being said I’ve decided to put in extra work and set goals for myself for the next year. I already know I want to put in more effort for female gamers, so I want to bring more female developers and female video game heroes to you all! It’s also super important to me to build a better and stronger future for us girl gamers to openly be who we are, to be true to our nerdy selves, and to play the games we love and sharing it with others. I want to really create a community where we don’t have to be afraid of being judged or called out for being a GIRL GAMER in a mostly male dominated space.
For example, I’m always a bit worried about the fact that I know very little about gaming technology and the latest trends, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have the heart of a gamer. I find video games fun and inspirational. I have fond memories with friends and family through video games, which makes me a gamer! Just because I’m a girl doesn’t mean I should be treated any differently, so I think we should work towards a future where we can drop the girl gamer stigma and use the same turn we use for male gamers and that is GAMER.

Okay, rant over… With all that being said I would like to remind my fellow gamers that 2020 might be rough right now for everyone but we have also seen everyone coming together and helping others and I think that is the spirit we need to keep alive going forward. Remember that 2020 is just another boss fight we need to beat to continue to the next level in 2021.

To wrap everything up I just want to thank you all for an amazing year of blogging so far. I hope you all stay with me and continue to support me as I bring more stories to you all in the future!

Lots of Love
