Undercover Adventures: Exploring the Thrills of ‘Alias’ – A Spy Game Review

I am taking you back into the past with this one, 2004 to be exact. Recently while cleaning out my old video games I rediscovered the beauty, of Alias.

Flashback of happy childhood memories reappeared, as this was one of the games I never could finish but dreamt of replaying. Not because the game was bad, but, for a youngster back then, the game was pretty difficult and kept me very focused for a long time. It is a great game and I recall spending hours trying to complete and finding the hard copy among the bunch of game was definitely a win for me.

“Alias” throws players into the high-stakes world of spying, drawing inspiration from the hit television series of the same name. Developed by Acclaim Studios, this action-adventure game offers a thrilling blend of stealth, combat, and puzzle-solving elements that will keep players on the edge of their seats.

Set in a universe where nothing is as it seems, players take on the role of Sydney Bristow, a highly skilled undercover agent working for a secret organization known as SD-6.
Tasked with completing dangerous missions across the globe, players must navigate through a web of deceit, betrayal, and to uncover the truth and prevent global destruction.

One of the standout features of “Alias” is its emphasis on stealth sneaky gameplay. Players must utilize Sydney’s arsenal of spy techniques, including disguise, distraction, and silent takedowns, to infiltrate enemy strongholds and evade detection. The game rewards careful planning and observation, allowing players to approach each mission in their own unique way. Let me just say… Stealth was not what I was good at so the game was somewhat hard back then.

Combat in “Alias” is a bit fast-paced and intense and can be difficult to navigate through when you are as young as I was back then.
Players can engage in hand-to-hand combat or use a variety of weapons and gadgets to dispatch foes. The game encourages players to adapt to different combat scenarios (not something I was good at).

In addition to its engaging gameplay, “Alias” features a compelling storyline filled with twists, turns, and unexpected revelations. The game’s narrative unfolds through a series of cinematic cutscenes and in-game dialogue, keeping players invested in Sydney’s journey from start to finish. Fans of the television series will enjoy the faithful recreation of familiar faces and locations, while newcomers will find plenty to enjoy in the game’s inviting world.

Visually, “Alias” is impressive for its time, and relooking at it now, the game still holds its own, with detailed environments, character models, and special effects that bring the world of spying to life.
While the game is around 20 years old, finding this was an enjoyable surprise, booting it up and working my way through the first 2 missions brought back so many childhood memories.

And while everything seems to be digital now, finding the hard copy to place on my bookshelf (gameself) is a massive win for me. I have fond memories as a child and playing games and I hope that I can add even more hard copies of games to my collection soon.
Which makes me wonder, do you have any hard copies lying around?
