My TOP 10 Detective Pikachu Pokémon!

I recently watched the Pokémon: Detective Pikachu movie and it's the kind of movie that makes you wish you could be a robotic or genetic engineer and finally create your own cute little companion.

With this article I’ll be doing something a bit different.

Ever hear of Pokémon? NO!? Have you been living under a rock? Possibly, since 95% of the world’s population knows of Pokémon and their trainers. I recently watched the Pokémon: Detective Pikachu movie and although it had its flaws, it’s the kind of movie that makes you wish you could be a robotic or genetic engineer and finally create your own cute little companion.

So after watching the film and binge playing Pokémon GO on my phone for hours afterwards, I decided that I would pick my 10 favourite Pokémon from the movie!!

According to the director who oversaw the film’s creation, there are about 54 Pokémon in the Detective Pikachu movie alone. A really small amount when you consider there are over 807 Pokémon across the games and anime series!! I seriously doubt that I would be able to pick 10 out of a scale that huge!!

Let’s get the show on the road. Here are my top 10 favourite from Pokémon: Detective Pikachu!

10. Lickitung (Normal-type Pokémon)

Lickitung is a soft pink Pokémon with a tongue that is up to two meters long, a round shaped body and a massive tail. Have you ever looked at your own tongue and thought this would make a great skin for a Pokémon? Well they did! And despite it being a gross concept it turned out kinda cute so that’s why Lickitung is on the list!

9. Cubone (Ground-type Pokémon)

A Pokémon that might look cute on the outside but can be a force to be reckoned with considering the tiny lonely Pokémon wears his deceased mothers skull as a helmet……Well if that’s not weird then I don’t know what is.

8. Pancham (Fighting-type Pokémon)

This tiny Pokémon can be seen as cute, cuddly and fluffy, most of its opponents don’t take it seriously due to its adorable nature. However once it evolves this cute little panda goes from super cute to super scary and starts looking more like a bodybuilder. Easy to see how he benched his way onto the list.

7. Snorlax (Normal-type Pokémon)

If someone asks me what the biggest Pokémon is I always immediately think of the snuggly, sleepy Snorlax. If I could be any Pokémon ever I would probably end up choosing Snorlax. (I am totally going to do a “what kind of Pokémon are you” quiz after this! I hope I get Snorlax!!). As far as superpowers go Snorlax’s is definitely one of my favourites, they can eat any kind of food without getting an upset stomach (a skill that would come in handy when I eat a LOT of candy).

6. Eevee (Normal-type Pokémon)

I just had to add this Pokémon since it is probably one of the cutest I have ever seen. Just strap a red bow onto it and it’s good to go! (The next big valentines present 2020). With big brown eyes Eevee captures the hearts of many trainers and while its the only Pokémon that is influenced  by its surroundings and emotions to evolve, this Pokémon deserves to be on this list. The underlying story of every Pokémon game and film is about friendship, and as Eevee can take the shape of evolution that best suits it to their trainer it just goes to show that this Pokémon will do whatever it takes to help its friends!

The below picture is that of Flareon since I could not actually find any Eevee’s BUT the face is a close resemblance! And I just love a cute little Eevee. Go check out the movie and lets see if we can find one together!

5.Growlithe (Fire-type Pokémon)

This massive doglike Pokémon is best known for it’s loyalty and fearlessness, who will protect its owner with its life. Taking on other Pokémon twice it’s size and a lot stronger than itself. Best described as man’s best friend in the Pokémon world. Besides, who doesn’t love a cute doggy?

4. Charmander (Fire-type Pokémon)

Of course I needed to add Charmander, the Pokémon that captures hearts all over the world with his tragic story of being abused by his owner. Charmander has one of the tragic stories, loyal and obedient staying in one spot as it started to rain, waiting for its trainer to return nearly killing the poor Charmander. It’s a Pokémon that deserves to be on the list for sacrificing everything to prove its worth.

3. Bulbasaur (Grass/Poison-type Pokémon)

These Pokémon love basking in the sunlight (who doesn’t?) as they gain energy from the sun. One of the original three starters from the Pokémon games he is tough on the outside but once you get past that hard exterior you discover a dependable and loyal friend. When we see the group of Bulbasaur in the movie my heart melted. This is a face that could usher in a new era of world peace!

2. Pikachu (Electric-type Pokémon)

When anyone mentions Pokémon we all think of Pikachu. Watching the anime we first meet Pikachu as Ash’s last option on his journey to become a Pokémon trainer. Not all goes well as we see a stubborn little Pokémon refusing to follow commands. However that’s where the story of Pokémon takes form. It’s not about giving orders and mistreating your Pokémon, it’s about the journey of friendship and growing mutual respect. It’s about the bonds that are formed through the journey. Pikach shows that growth in so many ways, he makes a great companion with is witty personality and the fact that he wants to always be by his trainers side. Throughout the end of the movie Detective Pikachu we see a Pokémon offering up his life so that he could save that of his trainer. Truly a Pokémon who deserves a spot in the top three!!

1. Psyduck (Psychic/Water-type Pokémon)

If you watched the movie you would understand why Psyduck is in first place. A Pokémon that stresses far too easily got to save the day with powerful psychic powers that are caused by severe headaches. Which was rather odd and cute at the same time, since the sidekicks don’t often get to show off their skills! However this can leave Psyduck stunned and unable to recall the events. Throughout the movie we see Psyduck as a walking time bomb. Worrying over everything around him and I got so see a lot of myself in him. Although I don’t get severe headaches and have super psychic powers I can still relate! I generally stress about everything and forget to relax and enjoy my surroundings… But most importantly I think he’s ultra cute! His clumsiness is adorable and I just want to scoop him up and give him cuddles all day long!!

This list was compiled after watching the long awaited Pokémon Detective Pikachu movie. It’s a fun lighthearted movie, which for the first time ever and hopefully not the last time brings us Pokémon in 3D. Throughout the movie I found myself laughing and trying to remember as much from Pokémon games as possible.

If you watched the movie let me know if you thought this article was super effective!! Did I add your favourites in my list? Which Pokémon did you hope to see in the film that didn’t make it?

Lots of love
